Oilers trade Ceci, third round draft pick and acquire Podkolzin

The Edmonton Oilers have traded defenceman Cody Ceci and a third-round draft pick in 2025 to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenceman Ty Emberson.

Ceci, who played his third season with the Oilers last year, recorded five goals and 20 assists in 79 games. He also contributed 2 goals and 3 assists during Edmonton’s 24 playoff games.

In contrast, Emberson tallied 1 goal and 9 assists in 30 games with the Sharks last season.

In addition to this trade, the Oilers have acquired forward Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks. Podkolzin, who had 2 assists in 19 regular season games and appeared in 2 playoff games for the Canucks last season, joins Edmonton as part of the ongoing roster adjustments.

These moves come in the wake of the Calgary Flames extending offer sheets to Oilers players Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Edmonton has one day to match these offers. If they choose not to, the Oilers would receive a third-round pick for Holloway and a second-round pick for Broberg.

These trades and pending decisions are part of Edmonton’s strategy to refine their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
