Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has announced the arrest of a suspect last week, over four months after a shooting incident at a children’s spray park in north Edmonton. The arrest comes as EPS continues its search for additional suspects involved in the April 11 shooting.
According to police, the incident occurred around 9 PM when an arranged meeting involving multiple individuals took place in the parking lot of Poplar Spray Park. A dispute during the meeting escalated, leading to 24 bullets being fired by several suspects who then fled the scene in their vehicles.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the shooting. However, one vehicle was later discovered completely burned and the bullets hit several homes in the area
In the course of the investigation, police executed a search warrant at a residence in south Edmonton. They recovered a loaded handgun, evidence related to the spray park shooting, and approximately 170 grams of cocaine.
George Ishiekwene, 24, was arrested at the south Edmonton home and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of restricted weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.
EPS is still working to identify and apprehend other suspects involved in the shooting. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Edmonton Police Service.
