Stony Plain Rd to remain closed

A section of Stony Plain Road that has been closed since April will remain off-limits for a few more months than originally planned.

The closure affects Stony Plain Road between 131st Street and 139th Street, which was shut down on April 29 to accommodate the ongoing Valley Line West LRT construction.

At the time of the closure, the City of Edmonton estimated the road would reopen by the end of August. However, in an update released yesterday morning, Marigold Infrastructure Partners announced that while construction is progressing as planned, the road will remain closed longer to expedite additional work and reduce disruptions expected in 2025.

Drivers can still access Stony Plain Road via 132nd Street.

Construction activities are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. There will be some overnight work, but Marigold Infrastructure Partners will provide advance notice for any nighttime construction.

Residents are advised to plan alternative routes and stay tuned for further updates on the project’s progress.

The business association is optimistic the LRT will benefit the area once it’s open.
