Edmonton Valley Zoo euthanizes Taiga the tiger

The Edmonton Valley Zoo has announced the euthanasia of Taiga, a 16-year-old tiger, following a rapid decline in her health. Taiga, who arrived at the zoo as a kitten from Northern Ontario, had been struggling with age-related medical issues in recent months.

In a Facebook post, the zoo shared that Taiga had been suffering from decreased mobility due to osteoarthritis and spondylosis, as well as central vision loss. Despite receiving close attention from her veterinarian and zookeepers and undergoing various treatments, her condition continued to worsen.

The decision to euthanize Taiga was made to prevent further suffering and to honor her quality of life.

Zoo officials said Taiga was known for her outgoing personality and goofy nature.
