Southern Alberta man sentenced to four years for child pornography

A 41-year-old man from Southern Alberta has been sentenced to four years in prison after police discovered over half a million images and videos of child pornography on his computers.

The charges stem from a November 2023 investigation that followed a tip about possible child abuse. On September 19, 2023, members of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit executed a search warrant at the man’s residence in Barnwell. During the search, authorities seized several computers and arrested him.

He was subsequently charged with sexual assault and with making, accessing, and possessing child pornography.

In connection with the case, a 34-year-old woman, identified as the victim’s mother, has also faced legal repercussions. She has been found guilty and is expected to be sentenced in November.

ICE reported that the man and woman had previously been in a relationship and that both were involved in the sexual assault of the child.
