2 Delta workers killed and one injured after explosion

Two workers were killed and another was seriously injured in an explosion at a Delta Airlines maintenance facility near Atlanta Airport earlier today. The explosion occurred around 5 a.m. while wheel components were being disassembled for maintenance at a wheel and brake shop. The parts involved were not attached to an aircraft at the time.

Delta Air Lines stated that it is working with local authorities to investigate the incident. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has opened an investigation into the cause of the explosion, which has not yet been released.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is in contact with Delta but has referred additional information requests to the airline. The facility, part of Delta TechOps, handles maintenance, repair, and overhaul work for Delta as well as over 150 aviation and airline customers globally.
