EPS are seeking the public’s help to identify a motorcyclist involved in a dangerous incident over the weekend on the Americas Triathlon Cup racecourse. The incident occurred on Saturday around noon, when a motorcyclist brazenly bypassed a police barricade and entered the closed racecourse at Groat Road southbound, near River Valley Road.
EPS officers on duty observed the motorcyclist speeding eastbound on River Valley Road, near athletes who were still competing. An officer stationed nearby attempted to initiate a traffic stop, clocking the motorcycle at 119 km/h in a zone where athletes and pedestrians were present.
Despite the officer’s attempts, the motorcyclist evaded capture, swerving dangerously around the police vehicle and running a red light at 105 Street. The motorcycle continued to weave through traffic on Rossdale Road, reaching a final recorded speed of 138 km/h in a 50 km/h zone before disappearing from view. The officer, prioritizing public safety, did not pursue.
“These speeds are extremely dangerous for both the rider and the public, particularly on a closed racecourse with numerous pedestrians present,” said Staff Sergeant James McLeod of the EPS Traffic Enforcement Section.
EPS are now asking for assistance from the public to identify the motorcyclist. The motorcycle is described as a solid black sport bike without a license plate, and the rider was dressed entirely in black.
