Health Canada is imposing new restrictions on the sale of nicotine pouches effective today, aiming to prevent youth access to these products.
The new regulations will ban certain flavours of nicotine pouches, limit sales to behind-the-counter at pharmacies, and introduce stricter advertising guidelines. After a six-month transition period, manufacturers will be required to update packaging to include warnings about nicotine addiction and to ensure that the design does not appeal to children.
Nicotine pouches, which come in various flavours and strengths, are often marketed as a less harmful alternative to smoking or other nicotine products. These pouches are placed between the user’s lips and gums, releasing nicotine gradually into the body.
Health Canada’s move is part of a broader effort to address the potential risks associated with nicotine products and to protect younger populations from nicotine addiction.
