Sturgeon Spirits Kick Off preseason with a Bang: Doronski Dazzles in QB Debut

The Sturgeon Spirits hit the gridiron with a vengeance as they opened their preseason with a 59-0 thrashing of the Fort McMurray Catholic High Schools Saints. Playing at Olexiuk Field in St. Albert, the home team showcased their firepower, led by their new quarterback, Steele Doronski.

Doronski, a Grade 12 player who’s spent the last two years as a standout outside linebacker, made his debut under centre one to remember. The first-time quarterback threw for four touchdowns and even rushed for one himself, earning him the game ball and a whole lot of respect.

But it wasn’t just Doronski lighting up the field. Alberta Under-18 star Tanner McBride showed off his skills with two touchdown grabs and over 100 yards receiving, plus a quarterback sack on defense. And defensive captain James Morrison was a force to be reckoned with, holding down the fort and even scoring two rushing touchdowns late in the game.
