Edmonton Corn Maze fatal stabbing: Both accused and victim had history of psychiatric issues

Police have revealed that both the accused and the victim in the fatal stabbing at an Edmonton corn maze earlier this week had previously been found not criminally responsible for violent crimes due to psychiatric conditions.

Michael George Ferzli has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of Joseph Farnsworth. Emergency crews were called to the corn maze at around 7 p.m. on [specific date], where Ferzli was arrested at the scene.

Court documents indicate that both Ferzli and Farnsworth were guests at the corn maze and were acquainted with each other. Ferzli, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and has experienced psychotic symptoms, had his case reviewed by the Criminal Code Review Board (CCRB) in October 2023. The CCRB deemed him “a significant threat to the safety of the public.”

Ferzli is scheduled to appear in court on September 4th.
