St. Albert teens shot by suspect in white van- UPDATE

St. Albert RCMP have released a black-and-white photo of a white van with tinted windows, which they believe was involved in a shooting that injured three teenagers early Monday morning.

The RCMP’s image shows the suspect vehicle, and according to police, the incident began when the three teens were driving on Grovesner Boulevard. They had a brief confrontation with the van, which then followed them to another road in the area. Shots were fired around 12:50 a.m.

A 17-year-old boy was shot, while a 16-year-old girl and another 17-year-old boy were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A Facebook post from the teenage girl’s mother indicates that the trio was shot at close range with a shotgun. She claimed that her daughter’s boyfriend sustained two direct shots to the back, and her daughter had shotgun pellets in her hair. The third teen was reportedly uninjured.

Police have stated that the shooter and the victims did not know each other.

Mounties are still hoping to receive additional photos or videos of the suspect vehicle.

“We ask that residents of Heritage Lakes, Riel, and Grandin neighbourhoods that have surveillance cameras to have a look between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. Sept. 2, 2024,” RCMP said in a news release.

“Please advise RCMP if you have footage of this white van or anything suspicious.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
