Aaron Grymes announced his retirement from the CFL today, marking the end of his playing career with a one-day contract signing with the Edmonton Elks.
The veteran defensive back enjoyed three stints with the Elks and was a key member of the team’s Grey Cup-winning squad in 2016. Over his eight-season career, Grymes recorded 240 defensive tackles, 19 special teams tackles, and 12 interceptions across 79 games. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2015 before spending the 2016 season with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.
Following his retirement, Grymes will transition to a role as a defensive assistant and community ambassador with the Elks.
The Elks are set to face the Calgary Stampeders tomorrow in a Labour Day rematch. Bethel Thompson has been named the starting quarterback once again after leading the Elks to a 35-20 victory on Labour Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium.
