New campaign in Edmonton and northern Alberta encourages reporting of hate crimes

A new campaign in Edmonton and Northern Alberta aims to encourage residents to report hate crimes. The message, displayed on select transit vehicles, reads “See Hate… Report Hate.”

The ads include the phone number for Crime Stoppers, the non-profit organization that collects anonymous tips. The initiative seeks to support individuals who may feel uncomfortable reporting hate incidents directly.

According to a representative from Crime Stoppers, when a report is submitted, it is 100% anonymous. The organization does not request personal or identifying information and does not use caller ID or call tracing.

Residents can report crimes or suspicious behavior to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online. In emergencies, including crimes in progress, individuals are urged to call 911.
