Alberta announced that it will not permit the sale of liquor in grocery on convenience stores

Alberta has announced that it will not permit the sale of liquor in grocery or convenience stores, a decision informed by a recommendation from an MLA tasked with evaluating the impact of such sales on the province’s retail liquor industry.

The committee consulted with industry representatives, experts, and business owners before opting to maintain the current model established in the 1990s.

One MLA stated that while allowing liquor sales in grocery and convenience stores might seem convenient for consumers, it could have detrimental effects on the retail liquor sector. The committee expressed concern that such changes could negatively impact small businesses, potentially leading to job losses and store closures.
