Edmonton man pleads guilty to 11 charges related to child luring and sexual assault

An Edmonton has plead guilty to 11 out of the 36 charges he had related to a child luring and sexual assault investigation

Imesh Ratnayake was arrested in July of 2022 with 19 offenses including sexual assault, sexual interference, and making and transmitting child pornography. Then again, in December of that year, he was charged with 18 more offenses. The charges include sexual assault, luring a child, and obtaining sexual services for consideration from a child.

ALERT, the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team said that he allegedly lured 6 children between the ages of 11 and 13 through Snapchat and bribed them with things like vapes, cannabis and alcohol, in return for sexual acts.

ALERT is looking to speak with about 100 children who they believe might have been lured by the accused.

On August 20 this year, Ratnayake pleaded guilty to 11 out of 37 charges against him. The charges are six charges of child luring, two charges of sexual interference, one charge of extortion, one charge of distribution of child pornography and one charge of making child pornography.

A sentencing hearing has been set for Nov. 15.
