Police discovered the remains of a teen in a burnt vehicle following a crash last week in northwest Edmonton.
In a news release yesterday, Edmonton police stated that speed and impairment are believed to be factors in the fatal collision that occurred on October 3 on Yellowhead Trail.
According to police, at 1:40 a.m., a white Dodge Dakota was driving northbound on 149th Street when it attempted to turn eastbound. The vehicle crossed a median and struck a cement barricade, which caused it to catch fire.
An unknown individual assisted the 19-year-old driver out of the vehicle, and they were subsequently taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe there was another person involved and began searching for them, ultimately finding a 19-year-old male the following day.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information, particularly the individual who helped the driver, to come forward.
