Edmonton police have discovered and dismantled a large encampment excavated beneath the High Level Bridge. Today, the police shared footage of the cave-like camp on their social media channels.
The encampment was uncovered on Monday during an unrelated investigation in the area. Authorities reported that several individuals were living there and that officers found stolen property and weapons at the site.
Officials confirmed that the bridge was structurally sound and that the campers were offered access to social support services. Additionally, all garbage from the site was cleared away. The police continue to emphasize the importance of community safety and support.
Police say they first discovered an encampment under the High Level Bridge in August, and that it was removed at that point, before later becoming reoccupied.
