Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi sues 3 individuals for spreading false claims about him

Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi is suing three people for spreading false claims about him, saying the disinformation has harmed his reputation and led to threats against him.

In documents filed with the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, Sohi accuses Mocha Bezirgan, Bob Rai, and Varinder Bhullar of falsely accusing him of criminal activity and corruption. He says they have profited from spreading these lies, which have contributed to toxic political discourse.

“I’ve served with integrity, and these claims are completely false,” Sohi said. “This legal action is about protecting our political discourse.”

Bezirgan, an internet content creator, is accused of making and sharing disinformation targeting Sohi. Rai is said to have worked with Bezirgan, and Bhullar is accused of spreading these false claims within the South Asian community and sharing Sohi’s home address.

Sohi says the false allegations have resulted in death threats and vandalism at his home. He hopes the lawsuit will stop others from spreading harmful disinformation.
