Strathcona County’s ‘Cram a Cruiser’ food drive set for October 25

Strathcona County Enforcement Services and the RCMP are teaming up for the annual “Cram the Cruiser” food drive to support the Strathcona Food Bank on Friday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Staff will be stationed at the Save-on-Foods, Sobeys, and Superstore locations along Baseline Road, encouraging shoppers to fill a police cruiser with non-perishable food donations.

“We’re heading into the busiest time of year for the food bank, and our community’s generosity during this annual event helps bring in much-needed donations.” said Tom Sutton, Director of RCMP and Enforcement Services.

In 2023, the Strathcona Food Bank distributed 5,566 hampers, assisting 17,177 individuals. The fall and winter months typically see an increase in demand for services.

Most needed items for donation include cold cereal (low-sugar options such as plain Cheerios), pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, canned tuna, whole grain crackers, condensed mushroom soup, no-sugar-added canned fruit, and large tetra packs of no-sugar-added fruit juice. Nice-to-have items include baby wipes, diapers (sizes 4T to 6T), and dry pet food.

Last year’s event collected 5,352 pounds of food and raised $1,955 in donations, all of which went directly to support families in Strathcona County.

Donation Locations:

  • Save-On-Foods, 60 Broadway Blvd.
  • Sobeys, 100-590 Baseline Road
  • Superstore, 100-410 Baseline Road
