Alberta government announces changes to election procedures

The Alberta government has announced that new legislative changes impacting municipal elections will take effect today, October 31. The supporting regulations for this legislation were released earlier today.

Edmonton Elections, the nonpartisan organization responsible for administering elections in the City of Edmonton, is currently reviewing the new regulations and updating its processes to align with the changes. Implementation of the legislation is already underway.

To inform the public about these changes, Edmonton Elections will host a virtual information session today. The session will cover key aspects of the legislative changes, including:

  • How candidates can submit their notice of intent to run
  • The process for registering political parties with Edmonton Elections
  • Guidelines for establishing candidate slates
  • New requirements for third-party advertisers

A link to the virtual information session will be available in the coming weeks on the Edmonton Elections website.
