Harlan Kingfisher is a devoted husband, father of four, and a proud First Nations hockey player from Sturgeon Lake, Saskatchewan. His journey through hockey, from childhood to playing at junior and college levels across Canada, has profoundly shaped his life. The skills and values he learned on the ice have played a significant role in helping him become the man, husband, and father he is today.
For Harlan, First Nations hockey is much more than just a sport; it’s a vibrant cultural celebration. There’s nothing quite like the energy of a game where the stands are filled with passionate fans cheering for their home community. The atmosphere is electric, with powwow music playing, bannock and stew being served at the concession stands, and the sweet smell of sweetgrass as players smudge their sticks before taking the ice. Harlan believes that hockey is “good medicine,” and this inspired him to create his brand, Smudge the Blades Apparel.
Through Smudge the Blades, Harlan aims to celebrate First Nations hockey while bringing joy and pride to those who wear his gear. His vision extends beyond apparel; he dreams of giving back to the First Nations hockey community that has given him so much. A portion of the proceeds from Smudge the Blades will be directed toward helping First Nation youth across Canada purchase new hockey equipment.
