Strathcona County RCMP say only 17% of commercial vehicles pass inspections

A recent inspection of commercial vehicles in Strathcona County found that only 17% passed inspection guidelines.

Inspector Vito DiSciglio, the Manager of Enforcement Services, said “Hundreds of commercial vehicles use County roads every day, so following regulations is crucial for everyone’s safety.”

The inspections took place from October 8 to 10, 2024, and involved teams from Strathcona County Enforcement Services, the RCMP, and other local police. Inspectors issued 44 tickets and took 40 vehicles out of service due to safety violations.

CVSA-certified officers inspect vehicles for safety issues, including:

  • Tire inflation
  • Secured cargo
  • Working lights (headlights, brakes, turn signals, etc.)
  • Emergency exits
  • Driver’s hours of service
  • Valid driver’s licence

Drivers of vehicles that fail inspections must fix the issues and pay fines ranging from $324 for minor violations to potential seizure for unsafe vehicles. Repairs must be completed before the vehicle can return to the road.
