On November 1, Smoky Lake RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 831 near the North Saskatchewan River Bridge. A truck with two occupants lost control after hitting a patch of ice and collided with a semi-truck. Both individuals in the truck—a 54-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman—were pronounced dead at the scene. Smoky Lake and Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were present at the collision site, and the highway was closed for several hours.
