Elks’ line backer Nick Anderson named as CFL’s most outstanding player during awards night

Edmonton Elks linebacker Nick Anderson was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie for 2023 at the CFL Awards banquet last night.

The award, voted on by the Football Reporters of Canada and nine CFL head coaches, capped off an incredible debut season for Anderson. He tied with teammate Nyles Morgan for defensive tackles (111) and ranked second in total tackles (116) and defensive plays (130). Anderson also recorded three sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles in 18 regular-season games.

Other CFL Award Winners:

  • Brady Oliveira (Winnipeg): Won the George Reed Most Outstanding Player award and Top Canadian for the second year in a row.
  • Rolan Milligan Jr. (Saskatchewan): Named Outstanding Defensive Player.
  • Ryan Hunter (Toronto): Earned Top Lineman honours.
  • Janarion Grant (Toronto): Claimed the Special Teams Player award.
  • Jason Maas (Montreal): Won Coach of the Year.
