Sturgeon County school support staff on strike

This morning marked the first day of the division-wide support school staff strike. Notice was given on January 10th and from 7:30-9:00 a.m. this morning, Sturgeon County support workers were outside schools, picketing.

Sturgeon County wasn’t the only division missing support staff this morning. Around 3000 Edmonton public school staff were out of school today, joining around 1000 in Fort McMurray who have been on strike since November.

Sturgeon County workers have received tons of support from locals and people on the school-board alike. The average support staff worker receives around $34,000 per year. Some staff haven’t received a raise in over a decade, despite inflation having gone up 30 per cent.
