Edmonton’s Chinatown area has struggled for years with crime such as vandalism, drug use, aggressive behaviour and panhandling. There has also been a quick rise in homelessness in and around Chinatown in recent years. Because of an increase in safety concerns, some businesses decided to close, but the community was passionate about bringing the life and energy back. To help, over the next two years Edmonton is investing $480,000 into the Chinatown Revitalization Fund. This money will help small businesses thrive and will hopefully rejuvenate this wonderful community.
