Alberta’s Minister, Jason Nixon, stated the province was preparing to deliver 250 single-family homes early this year, as long as the Municipality of Jasper provided the land. Now, Nixon has called out both the Municipality and Parks Canada for going back on their promise, claiming that building houses in Jasper is outside of the province’s jurisdiction. He says that Alberta can’t build housing without the cooperation of Jasper, the federal government, and the Municipality of Jasper. The Alberta government is continuing exploring options to help Jasper residents, and call out the federal government to meet its obligation to the park. Nixon has reached out to the federal government with no response.
