The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP have hopped on the body cam train. A statement from the police called the cams a part of Alberta RCMP’s “ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and modernization.” After some intense training, officers are now ready to use this modern technology while serving their communities.
This initiative is part of a one-year long nationwide rollout for body cams, which began in Autumn last year. Between 10,000 and 15,000 cameras are being equipped on frontline officers across the country.
Key benefits of the cams are:
- Providing accurate, unbiased audio and video
- Enhanced accountability and public trust
- Improved police-community interactions
- Better evidence collection
- Efficient complaint resolution
