This past Saturday, all intersection safety devices (ISD) in Strathcona County started to ease operations. This is because the municipality decided to let its contract with the traffic cameras vendor expire which happened at the end of last month. Photo radar will still be in use in playground, school, and construction zones. Municipalities have until the end of April to comply.
Local Enforcement Services do warn the public about the initial impact of this change. They believe there will be an increase of people running red lights and speeding. “Initially, there might be an increase in traffic violations, such as speeding and running red lights as drivers may feel less monitored, resulting in a short-term increase in violations,” said Enforcement Services’ manager Vito Disciglio. “Strathcona County may need to implement alternative safety measures such as increased officer patrols, traffic calming measures, or enhanced signage to maintain safety standards.”
