Pierre Poilievre would mandate life sentences for trafficking over 40 mg of fentanyl

Pierre Poilievre says that the Conservative government would mandate life sentences for anyone found to be trafficking, producing, or distributing over 40 mg of fentanyl. Poilievre says the penalty should be the same as murder.

The Conservative Party also says that traffickers caught with between 20-40 mg of fentanyl should be sentenced to 15 years in prison. The announcement came when Donald Trump was complaining about the drug entering the U.S. through Canada.

One of the reasons for Trump’s tariffs was surrounding Canada and Mexico not doing enough to prevent fentanyl entering the U.S. Trump has since delayed the tariffs after the latest border plan from the Canadian government and the implementation of a “fentanyl czar.”
