Strathcona County invested over $1.2 million into non-profit organizations

On Jan. 28, Strathcona County’s Council approved $1.21 million in Social Framework Grant funding to support non-profits that help countless County residents each year. There are two different funding streams, the first being core funding which addresses prevention and intervention support for social needs. The second stream supports cross-sector partnerships and addresses community-wide social issues.

The organizations receiving funding are as follows:

  • The Strathcona Food Bank is receiving $91,420
  • BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Area Society is receiving $85,000
  • Hope in Strathcona: A Post Recovery Home Association is receiving $80,325
  • County Clothes-line Foundation is receiving $30,000
  • Heartland Alliance Church is receiving $20,000
  • The Strathcona Christmas Bureau is receiving $15,000
  • Winder Inclusive Communities Service is receiving $7,500

The following organizations will receive multi-year funding

  • Volunteer Strathcona will receive $300,000 in total
  • The Saffron Centre will receive $145,000 in total
  • Linking Generations Society of Alberta will receive $91,200
  • $85,000 for BGC Strathcona County and $80,000 for BGC Strathcona County and partners
  • The local women’s shelter A Safe Place will receive $69,970
  • Parents Empowering Parents will receive $58,000
  • BriarPatch Family Life Education Centre will receive $20,000
  • Drive Happiness Seniors Association will receive $20,140
  • The local longterm care facility Sherwood Care will receive $15,000

The recommendations were made by the County’s Social Framework Grants Community Advisory Committee, who seriously considered and discussed each application.
