Peavey Mart does not offer online shipping. Recently, there has been an online store called “Peavy Mart” that is pretending to be Peavey Mart and is offering shoppers online shipping. These scam stores are popping up following Peavey Mart announcing that they are closing all of their stores across the country. Although in-store there are 30 per cent discounts on most items, Peavey Mart does not have an online store and is warning shoppers not to become a victim of this scam.
The fake stores are stealing personal information from shoppers. The RCMP stated the importance of fact-checking before allowing websites access to your personal information. “For safety, use an internet browser to navigate to the known business website, or call a nearby location and confirm the correct website and any sales that may be happening.” Peavey Mart took it a step further with easy things to look for to verify if a website or social media presence is legit. This includes checking for a verified name and checkmark, a legit phone number, and making sure certain businesses allow online or over the phone credit card payments.
