The Fort Saskatchewan Furniture Bank is closing down on April 30

The Fort Saskatchewan Furniture Bank is an organization that was established at the end of 2016. The Bank was created to help families dealing with domestic abuse or people trapped in abusive relationships. Over time, the organization expanded to help with growing demands from a wider range of situations such as families facing homelessness, financial stress, natural disasters, or families that are new to the country.

The Fort Saskatchewan Furniture Bank has helped hundreds of families start a safe new home in the city since 2016. Volunteers collected donations of furniture and day-to-day items from generous donors throughout Fort Saskatchewan. These donations were then given to families in need.

After over eight years of service, the organization saw a decline in the demand for services because of low vacancy rates and a lack of affordable housing. Recruiting volunteers has been challenging and despite fundraising efforts, the Bank has struggled to keep their doors open. Because of these challenges, the organization has made the difficult decision to close on April 30, 2025.

They expressed their pride of their work and the support they have given to families for the past eight years. “Everyone that has been involved with the Furniture Bank is extremely proud of the work that we have done to support those in need at a very difficult time in their lives. This truly has been a heartwarming and rewarding experience for all that have been involved in this valuable community service. The Board would like to acknowledge and thank the many clients, volunteers, donors, financial supporters, vendors, and individuals and companies that have supported us along this journey.”
