Snowfall Warning in effect

A long period of snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected.

Some areas may receive as much as 30 cm by Friday morning.

Snow will intensify this morning and continue to be heavy at times through the evening. Periods of lighter snow will continue through Friday.

Total snowfall accumulations will vary due to a couple of factors. Initially warm temperatures will lead to significant melting. Also, the snow is falling in relatively narrow bands, which will lead to high totals over some areas with less nearby.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.

A significant snowfall is sweeping through the area today, with heavy accumulation expected throughout the day and into the night. Gusty winds will accompany the snow, reducing visibility and making travel hazardous. By Friday, the snow will taper off, but cold temperatures will persist heading into the weekend. A gradual warming trend begins early next week, with sunnier skies and more seasonal conditions on the horizon.
