Alberta’s first responders dedicate their lives to keeping our communities safe, and now the provincial government is stepping up to support their well-being. Applications are now open for the First Responders Mental Health Grant Program, designed to help frontline organizations enhance or implement mental health services for their members.
This initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to first responder organizations, enabling them to implement critical mental health supports. These services include peer support programs, professional counselling, mental health training, and critical incident stress management. The goal is to ensure that those who dedicate their lives to protecting the public have access to the resources they need to maintain their mental well-being.
A wide range of first responder organizations qualify for funding under this program. Eligible groups include police, fire, emergency medical services (EMS), emergency communications, corrections, sheriffs, and fish and wildlife officers. Any organization working in a front-line public safety role can apply.
Funding can also be used for customized mental health initiatives tailored to the specific needs of first responders. Whether it’s expanding access to counselling, launching mental health training, or creating new peer support networks, the goal is to ensure help is available when it’s needed most.
Applications are now open, and eligible organizations are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. For more details on the program and how to apply, visit the Supporting Psychological Health in First Responders (SPHIFR) grant program website.
