Guthrie School Hosts Teal Up Day to Honour Military Families

Guthrie School will be a sea of teal on April 11 as students, staff, and community members come together to celebrate Teal Up Day, a national initiative recognizing the resilience and sacrifices of military children. Sturgeon Public Schools invites the public and media to attend this special event, which runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The day will kick off with a pancake breakfast in the gym at 9:00 AM, setting the stage for a series of engaging and meaningful activities. At 10:00 AM, attendees will hear from the Base Commander, who will deliver a welcome address highlighting the strength of military families. One of the most anticipated moments of the day—a helicopter landing—is scheduled for 11:00 AM, though organizers note that last year’s arrival was delayed, so timing may vary.

Throughout the day, visitors can explore a variety of interactive displays and activities. Outside, military personnel will showcase vehicles and equipment, including a Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV), an ambulance, Military Police displays, and Infantry demonstrations. Inside, the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) will offer engaging stations, while the gym will be transformed into a carnival-style play area.

Teal Up Day serves as a powerful visual reminder of the community’s support for military children, and Guthrie School is proud to host an event that both educates and uplifts.
