A fire restriction is now in effect across Lamont County and the Village of Andrew as of April 16 at 8 a.m., due to persistent dry conditions, minimal precipitation, and increased wind speeds.
The restriction applies to all rural areas within Lamont County, including its hamlets. The County is taking these precautionary steps to reduce the risk of wildfires during a time when vegetation is dry and ignition risk is elevated. Additional municipalities may be added to the restriction area as conditions evolve.
No new fire permits will be issued under the restriction. Existing permits are revoked immediately and are no longer valid. Prohibited activities include open burning of brush, bales, garden and yard debris, and the use of fireworks.
Caution is strongly advised when driving or working in grassy areas. Hot exhaust systems and vehicles with debris buildup can unintentionally ignite fires. The public is urged to keep equipment clean and to avoid unnecessary activity in fire-prone areas.
Recreational fires and cooking using acceptable appliances or fire pits are still permitted under strict guidelines:
• Only clean fuels such as natural gas, dry wood, or charcoal may be used.
• Flames must remain under one metre in height.
• Fires must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult with a means of extinguishment nearby.
Controlled burning in approved barrels or incinerators is also permitted under these same safety standards.
Lamont County continues to monitor conditions and will issue updates as needed.
