UPDATE: Wildfire closes Henday from Wye Road to Yellowhead

Thank you to Carrie for texting the newsroom at 780-998-1079 with an update on the grass fire that began around 12:30 this afternoon near Anthony Henday Drive in between Sherwood Park and Edmonton.

Police have closed the Henday between Wye Road and the Yellowhead Highway (16). Additionally, parts of Highway 16 are expected to be closed along with all connector roads in the area.

Current weather and wind conditions are enabling the fire to spread rapidly.

Strathcona County RCMP advise motorists to avoid the area. At present time, no evacuations are forecasted.

UPDATE: Fire is under control, all lanes of the Henday and all connector roads have been reopened.
