Redwater RCMP have arrested a man tampering with water sprinkler systems set up by the fire department to protect homes from wildfires.
The sprinkler systems were rendered ineffective following the tampering. Officers investigated the individual for trespassing, then finding the broken machines.
“We want to send a clear message to those who have evacuated as well as to those who enter evacuation zones to cause harm” stated S/Sgt. Michael Jaszczyszyn, District Advisory NCO for Eastern Alberta District. “We are patrolling evacuation areas to ensure the safety of the communities and will continue to apprehend, arrest and charge all those who commit criminal activities within those zones, especially those than can facilitate the spread of wildfires”.
The man has been arrested and charges are pending approval. An update is expected once charges are laid.
RCMP continue to urge residents to stay clear of evacuation areas, for the safety of themselves and others.
