Canadian Armed Forces to conduct road move in advance of 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) will be moving “a substantial number of military vehicles” between Edmonton and Calgary within the next 15 days in support of the RCMP-led Integrated Safety and Security Group (ISSG).

Due to the delays that these vehicles may cause, the CAF has confirmed that a majority of the movement will be taking place in the evening, going into the night. For security reasons, the specific vehicles and total number of vehicles are not made available to the public.

The route will see the vehicles travel west on Highway 216 (Anthony Henday), south to Highway 2 (Queen Elizabeth II), west on Highway 201, west on Highway 1 and south on Highway 40.

The CAF are providing road support, as well as air surveillance, rural terrain surveillance, as well as chemical biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive response support.

The RCMP are working with the CAF, Alberta Sherriff’s Branch and Alberta Conservation Officers in order to provide security and safety for all leaders of the G7 nations.

The Kananaskis G7 Summit takes place from June 15-17 of this year.
