Fort Saskatchewan Council approves 5.40% property tax increase

Fort Saskatchwan City Council passed the 2025 Property Tax Bylaw at the May 13th meeting. With an approved operating budget of $100.2 million and a capital budget of $14.2 million, the average residential property will see an estimated 5.40% increase in the municipal portion of property taxes.

That’s an increase of $124.69 per year higher than last year, based on an average residential property value of $449,205.

“City Council understands that any tax increase can be challenging. We’ve worked hard to strike a balance—minimizing the impact on residents while continuing to invest in the services, programs, and infrastructure that make Fort Saskatchewan a great place to live,” said Gale Katchur, Mayor of Fort Saskatchewan. “This budget reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible fiscal planning and building a strong, inclusive community.”

The city states that a significant factor in the tax increase is the increase in the Provincial Education Tax, which went up by 10.02% for the average residential property.

Each residential and non-residential property will receive a tax notice. Tax notices are mailed starting the third week of May, with property taxes due on June 30, 2025.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan asks residents to be aware of a potential Canada Post service disruption due to a potential AUPE worker’s strike. If this occurs, it is still the responsibility of residents to ensure payment is made on time.

Property tax notices can be received electronically or obtained in person at City Hall at 10005 102 St, Fort Saskatchewan.
