Alberta’s government has launched a new program to help with the costs of prolonged wildfire evacuations.
Each adult resident of a community effected by an evacuation notice and has been evacuated for seven days or more is eligible to receive a one-time payment of $1,250 and $500 for each dependent child under the age of 18.
Residents have 60 days to apply following the start of an evacuation order for their community and can apply online.
Payments will be made by e-transfer within 24 hours.
“Being forced from your home is one of the most difficult things a family can face,” said Premier Danielle Smith. “Our government is here to support Albertans every step of the way – helping cover urgent costs and providing reassurance during an incredibly stressful time.”
Albertans can connect with Alberta Supports for more information about the benefits available and how to apply by visiting alberta.ca/alberta-supports, emailing css.ascc@gov.ab.ca, calling 1-877-644-9992 toll free, or visiting your local Alberta Supports Office for in-person services.
