Dr. Ken Chow and Dr. Darcy Zalasky have notified their clients that they will be stepping down as family physicians within the coming months. Chow said that he has sent somewhere between 1,300 and 1,400 retirement notices to individuals under his care, and he mentioned that Zalasky has sent many more than he has.
These notices are not uncommon – the College of Physicians and Surgeons requires all doctors to notify their patients of their retirement or a change in practice at least three months before.
Since the Grandin Medical Clinic hasn’t been able to find any new doctors to fill the shoes of Dr. Chow and Dr. Zalasky, patients are required to find new physicians elsewhere. All the other doctors on staff are already operating at full capacity and cannot handle the additional pressure of a few thousand more patients while being able to provide adequate care.
