Man taken to hospital in small airplane crash

A small airplane crashed at around 2 p.m. on May 26 at the Cooking Lake Airport southeast of Sherwood Park.

The only occupant of the plane, a male, was airlifted to hospital by STARS. The pilot was attempting to land when he lost control of the aircraft and crashed.

STARS air ambulance flew the man, who is in his 70’s, to University of Alberta Hospital and that he is in serious, but stable condition.

The grassfire caused by the accident was put out by Strathcona County firefighters about an hour after the crash.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has sent a team of investigators to look into the crash, but no further details have been released at this time.
