Edmonton man charged with vehicle theft and assault

Wetaskiwin RCMP have arrested a man following a stolen vehicle report made on May 22 in the area of 55 Street and 41 Avenue. The victim started his vehicle and stepped out, and then a male entered the vehicle and stole it, hitting the victim with the truck in the process.

The day after, Leduc RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers from the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit found and arrested the suspect in a different stolen vehicle.

Parkland RCMP recovered the original Wetaskiwin stole vehicle on May 26.

32-year-old Anthony Whitford has been charged with six counts of operation while prohibited, theft of a truck, assault with a weapon, failure to stop after accident resulting in bodily harm, possession of a controlled substance and more. Whitford has remained in custody for future court dates at different locations.
