Fort Saskatchewan, June 4, 2025 — Alberta Sheriffs have shut down a notorious property at 12 Elizabeth Drive following years of drug activity, criminal complaints, and community frustration.
The closure, led by the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit, was ordered by the Court of King’s Bench and will last 90 days. Starting at noon today, no one—including the former owner—is allowed on the premises until September 2. The home will be boarded up, locked, and fenced while SCAN continues to monitor the site.
Since 2022, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP responded to nearly 100 incidents at the property, ranging from assaults and thefts to overdoses. In just the first eight months of 2024, police received 25 complaints specifically tied to drug activity. Emergency services were also called twice in September 2024 to assist drug users found on-site.
“The closure of this property sends a clear message to drug dealers across Alberta: You are not welcome here,” said Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis. He praised SCAN and the RCMP for working with residents to reclaim the neighbourhood.
In November 2024, SCAN served a warning letter to the homeowner, who was living on the property. During that visit, investigators found drug paraphernalia and two known offenders in the basement.
This court-ordered closure is part of a broader effort under Alberta’s SCAN Act, which allows authorities to shut down properties linked to illegal activity. Since 2008, SCAN has investigated over 10,000 properties and issued more than 130 closure orders.
The conditions for this Fort Saskatchewan property remain in effect until June 2027.
“This is the result of a strong partnership between law enforcement and the community,” said Staff Sergeant Scott Lande of the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP. “Together, we’ve taken back a neighbourhood.”
