University of Alberta ranks in world’s top 100 universities

The University of Alberta has ranked in the top 100 of the world’s universities according to a new ranking from the Center for World University Rankings. 

The University of Albert ranked 81 out of the over 21,000 universities that were looked at, making it in the top 0.4 per cent.

The school ranks fourth highest in the country, behind the University of Toronto in 23rd, McGill University in 27th, and the University of British Columbia in 48th. 

The U of A isn’t Edmonton’s only post-secondary institution on the list, Concordia University also landed itself a spot in the top 1000, making it to 629, a top 3 per cent school. The University of Calgary also made the list, falling just short of the top 200 at 202. 

The highest ranked school in the world according to the 2025 rankings is the United States’ Harvard University, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and then Stanford University. The United Kingdom then rounds out the top 5, with Cambridge and Oxford finishing it off. 

The Center for World University Rankings only release the top 2000 schools that they rank, with number 2000 being Başkent University, a school in Turkey. 

Canada has 38 universities and post-secondary institutions that made the top 2000.
