The City of Edmonton is conducting a crossing track rehabilitation at the intersection of University Avenue and 114 Street in order to ensure that the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system maintains its functionality.
The intersection will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27, until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1.
Traffic on University Avenue will be closed in both east and west directions. Vehicles traveling west on University Avenue will still be able to turn onto 114 Street, both north and southbound.
Pedestrian restrictions will also be in place to protect the public from any dangers that might occur as a result of the construction.
Crews will be working overnight to expidite the construction process, and as a result, there may be noise in the area during the evening. The city said in a statement that “every effort will be made to reduce impacts to the public.”
In addition to the road closures, McKernan/Belgravia LRT station will also be closed. Edmonton Transit Service will be running a split service.
South of the crossing, trains will run between Century Park and South Campus/Fort Edmonton stations. North of the intersection, Capital Line trains will run between Health Sciences/Jubilee and Clareview stations. The Metro line and Valley line are unaffected by the closing of the McKernan/Belgravia station.
