AHS warns Edmonton Residents of potential measles exposure

Alberta Health Services (AHS) have warned residents of a new measles exposure area for the Edmonton zone.

Individuals who were at the Glenridding Village Dollarama at 16711 Rabbitt Hill Road on June 16 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and June 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. could be at risk.

Additionally, the infected individual was also at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital Emergency Department from 8 p.m. on June 18 to 1 a.m. on June 19.

Anyone who was at these locations who was born in or after 1970 and has less than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine could be at risk of developing measles. Those who meet the criteria are encouraged to self-monitor for symptoms.

Measles symptoms include a fever of 38.3 degrees Celsius or higher, a cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash that appears three to seven days after the fever. The rash typically starts behind the ears and on the face before spreading downwards to the chest and arms.

If symptoms are developing, do not go to the emergency room or any local physician. Call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434.
