Fort Sask. hosts National Indigenous People’s Day

Fort Saskatchewan is hosting a National Indigenous People’s Day celebration on Saturday, June 21 in Legacy Park.

The celebration takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m..

This day of cultural celebration will feature performances from singers and dancers, cultural activities and crafts and vendors.

A new addition to the festival this year is the Healing Hands of Reconciliation project, where individuals are invited to reflect on the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action by signing their name and painting a handprint on a tipi canvas. The tipi will then be raised for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Attendees are also invited to explore the Witness Blanket Exhibition being put on display at the Fort Heritage Precinct. The installation is inspired by the survivors of residential schools and is open to the public free of charge on June 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..
